Today was a good day. I worked with a small group during math. I helped them with their place value exam. Each one of them made great progress. During writing I helped the students come up with great ideas for their stories. Some of you have some really great ideas.
In writing today we received our prompt about our Messy Rooms. In this prompt you are to write 3 similes using like or as to describe your room. You are to tell where this room is located, and you are to tell who this room belongs to. You are also to provide six descriptions of this room. You do not need to start the introduction at this point. A diagram may help. You were also given a bigger story map where you better develop your ideas. This is not a hard paper. You can do this, I have faith in you.
A lot of you are asking questions and trying to get me and Mr. Ollis to give you ideas. This is your paper and you need to come up with the ideas on your own.
Tomorrow, we will start writing our stories. On Thursday we will rewrite and share our stories with a partner. Remember to Show Not Tell. On Friday you may be chosen as one of the ones who gets to read their story in the Forum. Remember don't be obvious, make your paper stand out from everybody else's. Be creative. Good Luck!!!
In Math, today we started a unit on Geometry. This is important. Geometry will follow you throughout your graduation from high school, and into any college math class you take. Geometry will definitely be on the TCAP. We discussed point, line, ray, line segment, plan, angle, vertex, right angle, acute angle, obtuse angle, and a straight angle. We also studied parallel lines, intersecting lines, and perpendicular lines. Make sure that you study your math Journal it is important for tests. Also you may visit my web page at
where I will be posting a game to help you study. I may also offer an additional study session after school before the test for any interested, but I will not promise this.
In Science, today we went over our tests. For those of you who made over an 80 give yourselves a pat on the back. For those of you who made below an 80 you have the chance to bring your grade up by correcting your answers. There are stipulations. 1.)You must write them on a clean sheet of notebook paper stapled to the front of your test. 2.) Answers changed on the actual test is not acceptable. 3.)The answers must be correct in order to gain back points. 4.) No one will gain points higher than an 80. 5.) All students must have their tests signed by Thursday, unless you have a note from a parent then you may return the test on Friday, otherwise you will stay in detention until the test is received back signed.
Remember it is important to correct your answers even if it just brings your grade up to a higher F. Even though it may bring it up from a 40 to a 60 that still will help you out when it comes time to average grades for report cards.
