August 17th, My First Day!

It was great to meet you all today. I hope you enjoyed the name game. I think that I will be able to remember most of your names now. I will continue to work on it, and hopefully by Friday I will be able to remember each and every one of you.

Here is a rundown of the day for anyone who missed or anyone who needs to catch up.

Today we met in the Forum as a group. In this meeting all three fifth grade classes met together and we studied Ideas for writing. We also studied how "Show not Tell" in your writing.

An Idea is the message the writer conveys, or what the writer has to say. The idea needs to be fresh and original, and unique to the writer's own personal experience. The content should contain details to support the idea.

Show don't Tell in your writing. Make the reader feel what your are feeling. Use strong detail and describe, don't just state the obvious. Here is some help for you

Your Prompt:
This week you will be working on a prompt imagining if you entered the messiest bedroom ever. In this prompt you will need to show not tell. You are not allowed to use the words mess or messy. You need to use similies, adjectives, and use an organizer for your thoughts.

You will also need to follow your rubric.

In science, today we worked on Daily Science. Remember that you will be receiving a grade on your science journal so make sure you are keeping up with your science journal.

Some of the grades on the Science tests were not the best. Seeing as this is the first test Mr. Ollis will probably require you to have this test signed by your parent.

Remember that you are required to get your science notes from someone if you miss a class. It is very important to study some notes every night that way you are not trying to cram the night before your exam.

Today there were no notes, but there will be new guided notes tomorrow. Be prepared!

Until Tomorrow!!

Mrs. Noe
